I am asking that the Mason’s of Mississippi show the public that we are good

Grand Master Message -2018

200 Years and Still Cemented With Love

Brethren and Friends,

Earlier this year our Governor, The Honorable Phil Bryant, issued a proclamation making March 9, 2018 “Freemasons Day” in Mississippi. This was done in recognition of our Bicentennial Celebration which had been previously proclaimed. It was a distinct honor for me to be elected to be your Grand Master on that Historic Day. At my installation I was asked the following question “Do you promise, on the honor of a Mason, that in the office of Grand Master you will according to the best of your abilities, strictly comply with the Laws and Regulations of this Grand Lodge and all Ancient Masonic usages?” My answer to the Installing PGM was “I do”. At this time I reaffirm that answer to you, My Brethren and Friends, and further promise to you that I will give the utmost attention to the welfare of The Grand Lodge of Mississippi and all its appendant bodies in my term as Grand Master.

Two hundred years ago in Natchez Mississippi our Founding Fathers coined a phrase “Cemented With Love” which has been our hallmark since 1818. I have chosen to renew that call to unity and brotherhood by reaffirming that motto and adding “ 200 Years and Still Cemented with Love”. There are many kinds and types of cement. Some will be strong for a while and then will begin to crumble. Others will be strong and stand the ravages of time and the elements for thousands of years. The ancient “Collegium Artificium” or College of Architects in Rome, to which many of our brethren belonged, knew of mixtures of cement that would hold fast even when poured in water and be strong for many years. One example of this is at the ancient port of Joppa where our brethren off loaded the materials for the Temple in Jerusalem. I visited Joppa and looked at those sea walls still standing and strong after thousands of years. This is the kind of cement that was poured out upon Our State and the Grand Lodge of Mississippi in Natchez 200 years ago on July 27, 1818 with the founding of Our Grand Lodge. At this time I ask you celebrate and remember with me our common bonding as Friends and Brothers which began on that day.

This year in Natchez on July 27, 2018, the 200th Anniversary of that event, we will reenact that event through a dramatic presentation by the MS Lodge of Research. You are invited to attend, and you may purchase tickets to a Grand Banquet to be held in the evening. There will also be a fireworks display on the Mississippi River. I look forward to seeing you in Natchez.

Sincerely & Fraternally,

Thomas L. Cumberland

The Grand Master’s Activities

Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Fred Bean

Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Fred Bean

Brethren, I think it is about time to update you regarding my activities.

Since my Installation as Grand Master I have been partially limited as to how far I could travel. After the Installation, I did attend a few meetings in March and April, one of which was the Annual Deputies School that was held at E.J. Knox King Solomon Lodge No. 130, March 28th, my home Lodge. Our members did an outstanding job in being the host for this event, and I appreciate them for this.

On April 16th I did attend The Annual Sottish Rite Reunion in Meridian, and Hamasa Shrine’s Stated meeting on April 21st. During May, June and part of July, I was not able to do much traveling. I was able to attend a Board of Directors Meeting of the Grand Lodge on June 3, 2015, where we took care of items that needed to be addressed. It has been a grueling experience not being able to travel to the various meetings that I had to cancel and reschedule some. Beginning July 11th, Brother Danny Alexander Grand Lecturer, PGM, Eddie Alexander and I traveled to Iuka Lodge No. 94 and attended my first Congressional School. Since that time I have been pretty active and have attended every School since.

I am very thankful for the progress that I have made and am very grateful for all the prayers, phone calls, letters and messages that I have received since my back operation, May 6th.

As Willie Nelson sang, “I’m on the road again”, which makes me feel like a bird out of the cage and am enjoying it to the fullest. As far as catching up on those missed meetings I am going to try, so just let me hear when a convenient time that you would like me to visit your Lodges. I prefer open District meetings where the ladies and non-Masons are able to attend. This gives us a chance to spread to those who might be interested in pursuing Masonry. We do not have membership drives so we must seize every opportunity to promote Masonry every time we get a chance.

Speaking of membership drives, we can look back on our rolls and check out the names of those who were initiated as an Entered Apprentice and never attempted to go any further. Brethren, these Brethren must have seen something in a Mason that prompted him to ask for a petition. I encourage each Brother to contact those Brethren and see if you can rekindle that desire he had when he asked for that petition.

I realize that the membership records for this year, 2015, ended August 31st and those who were suspended for non-payment of dues need to be contacted immediately and get them to reinstate. This is probably the easiest time to reinstate someone because as time passes, I assure you it will be harder to get them to reinstate.

Brethren, as this year passes, I would like to remind you that as I visit the various Lodges, I will be displaying this year’s Masonic lapel pins, neck ties and my special commemorative knife. This year the net proceeds from the lapel pins will be credited to the Grand Lodge Endowment fund, which is a very worthwhile project; The proceeds from the collector knifes will be credited to the Scholarship fund, which we must continue funding and the neck ties are just something that has been going on for past few years, which the Brethren seem to like. So far, these items have been received very well. I feel like that the District deputies have been displaying the lapel pins as they visit their Lodges. As you know October has been the month that has been designated for Masons to display their Masonic lapel pin on the lapel of their suit, sport coat or their shirt.

As we continue the remaining part of this Masonic year, I urge each of you to redouble your efforts in supporting your Lodges and your community.

Looking forward to visiting with each of you as I make my visits in your area.

Fraternally,

Fred

Grand Master Undergoing Back Surgery

Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Fred Bean

Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Fred Bean

Dear Brethren,

Just a note to let everyone know that since and just prior to Grand Lodge I developed terrible back pain. To those of you who were there could tell that I was in severe pain. As soon as I returned home I made an appointment with my Doctor in Jackson, who put 2 rods and 4 screws between L4 and L5 in 2012. After Xrays, an MRI and a Milogram, he decided to remove the rod on my right side and insert a longer rod that will include L3, L4 and L5. I am scheduled to have this done Wednesday, May 6th in Jackson at the River Oaks Hospital.

I appreciate all the phone calls that I have received, also all the prayers that have been lifted up for me. Anyone who has not been in a similar condition does not know how much I have missed by not being able to get around attending Lodges and just being with my Masonic Family. But I assure you that just as soon as I am able to get out among you Brethren, you will get tired of seeing my face.

I ask every one to remember me and my wife, Norma, in your prayers during this time.

Fraternally,

Fred

The Grand Lodge of Mississippi has partnered with Macoy Publishing and Masonic Supply Co. to offer individual Masons as well as Blue Lodges an online Masonic Shop.

This Masonic Shop serves two main purposes:

First, it provides Mississippi Masons with a Mississippi specific resource for Masonic regalia, supplies, apparel and more.

Second, to provide additional funding to the Grand Lodge. Our affiliation with Macoy allows for a percent of each purchase to be sent to the Grand Lodge of Mississippi.

Important Note: If you call or make order via mail or if you make an order for an Appendant Organization, please consider mentioning that you would like the credit for the purchase to go to the Grand Lodge of Mississippi. If you do, then the Grand Lodge will receive a commission for that purchase as well.

Please be sure to check the Masonic Shop frequently, as we will be working with Macoy Publishing to continually add new items to the shop.

Brother JP Hollingsworth & Grand Master of Masons in Mississippi, Butch Britt.

On August 29, 2014, several brethren from Pascagoula Lodge # 419 F & AM accompanied our Most Worshipful Grand Master, Clyde E. Britt, II to the home of Bro. JP Hollingsworth to present him with a 70 year membership pin and certificate. What an accomplishment, and it’s one well worth recognizing and honoring. In addition to being a member of Pascagoula Lodge, Bro. Hollingsworth was also Past Master of Lodge #497 in Mendenhall, MS, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and member of Joppa Shrine Temple in Biloxi.

On September 4th, 2014, at the age of 97, having faithfully discharged the great duties which we owe to God, our neighbors, and ourselves, it pleased the Grand Master of the universe to summons Bro. Hollingsworth into His eternal presence. Brethren of Pascagoula Lodge had the honor of performing graveside rites for Bro. Hollingsworth.
